New 10/30/04 eMedNY eXchange

Introducing eMedNY eXchange,
a new electronic file submission method!

Effective 11/01/2004 eMedNY eXchange
will be available for users to send and
receive the following HIPAA compliant
transaction files.

270/271 - Eligibility Inquiry and Response

278 - Service Authorization Request and
Response (except for DVS requests).

eMedNY eXchange is as easy as email:

  • Users can submit batches of HIPAA
    compliant transactions by "attaching"
    files and sending them for processing.
  • Users can pick up responses from the
    system by going to their "Inbox" and
    detaching files to their computers.

To access eMedNY eXchange you must first
enroll in ePACES/eXchange via
https://www.emedny.org/enroll/.
To activate your eXchange Inbox, call
eMedNY Provider Services at (800) 343-9000.

Manual Update

Effective July 24, 2004, there will be a new
message for HIPAA reject code 84 -
(Certification Not Required for this
Service). New message "PA NOT
REQ/MEDIA TYPE INVALID" will be
returned except on the OMNI 3750.
The OMNI 3750 will continue to
return "DVS NUMBER NOT REQUIRED"

Effective July 24, 2004, the description
for DVS Code '138' will be changed from

file in order to see these changes.

Deletion 04/28/04 Eligibility Software
(link removed)

The Field Eligibility Software is not HIPAA
compliant, and is no longer available for
download. The software has been replaced*
by ePACES. If you have questions, please
contact us so we may assist you.

* The import/export batch functionality has
not been replaced by ePACES. Providers
wishing to submit Eligibility and Service
Authorizations in a batch mode should
consider the FTP batch process described in
the MEVS Batch Authorization Manual.

New 03/18/04 PACES Termination
of Support Letter

This letter contains an important
announcement about New York Medicaid’s
termination of support for the Provider
Assisted Claim Entry System (PACES)
billing software. The Department of
Health through its fiscal agent, Computer
Sciences Corporation (CSC), has replaced
and enhanced PACES functionality with a
HIPAA-compliant web-based application
known as the Electronic Provider Assisted
Claim Entry System (ePACES). Medicaid
currently supports both PACES and ePACES,
but effective April 15, 2004 the PACES
billing software will no longer be supported.

Provider Editing: 00940, 00943, 01237,
& 01243 (Denial Reason Codes 066, 067,
068 & 318) will be enhanced to ensure
Out-of-state Licenses contain a valid State
Abbreviation Code within the first two-digits
of the License Number.
